Akshay Kumar starrer Ram Setu did not receive a good response from the public, as it dropped significantly by 25% on the first day. With an estimated amount of Rs. 6.5 to Rs. 7 crore having been collected over four days, these stats are very low for Ram Setu considering its budget and cast size. This lacklustre performance can be attributed to poor ratings among audiences in metropolitan cities – which make up about 40% of India’s population – but also due to limited releases during Diwali holidays (a period during which 90% of Bollywood’s revenue is generated). Now that these holidays have come to an end and viewers’ attention span is moving back towards other films, it seems unlikely that Ram Setu will recover anytime soon despite being released just weeks ago.
A double-digit total on either Saturday or Sunday is unlikely for the film to achieve based off its previous performance this week. A best case scenario would land the opening weekend (6 days) at about Rs. 58 crores, but after that, it’s going to be Tuesday where everything will come down to how well word of mouth does up until then. After dropping by Friday, it’s unlikely for the movie to hit 100 crore rupees -but don’t count them out just yet! While there has been mixed reviews regarding its quality thus far, many are still interested in seeing what they can do with one final push ahead before judgement day comes round.
