Ever since the trailer for Aamir Khan’s movie Laal Singh Chaddha was released, the film has been subject to massive backlash with ‘Boycott Laal Singh Chaddha’ trending on social media. It underperformed at the box office and was unable to captivate audiences. Nevertheless, industry insiders highly praised the project but unfortunately that wasn’t enough. Producer Ekta Kapoor came forward in support of her leading star Aamir Khan, adamantly expressing that such a distinguished figure should not be subjected to boycott and injustice.
Ekta Kapoor, an acclaimed television executive and producer in the Indian film industry (Bollywood), recently shared her thoughts on boycotting Laal Singh Chaddha. According to a report from Navbharat Times, she noted that stars like Aamir Khan should never be boycotted for the sheer amount of success they have brought to the industry. She further declared, “It’s ludicrous to even consider something like this as superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan are all cinematic legends. No boycott can be considered with regards to Aamir; he is an iconic figure and someone we cannot turn away from.”
Since the trailer of Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s movie dropped, it has been riddled with problems. From social media boycotts to physical protests, there seems to be no respite for this film. One incident even saw a theatre screening stopped midway in Jalandhar due to pressure from a fringe group, while another saw a lawyer file an official complaint against the movie in Delhi for supposedly incorrect depictions of India’s military.
On August 11, Advait Chandan’s adaptation of the Academy Award–winning movie Forrest Gump, titled Laal Singh Chaddha starring Tom Hanks hit theaters worldwide.
