Five weeks after JugJugg Jeeyo, at last, there was a movie that had managed to pull off a comparatively decent box office weekend. Until then, week after week had witnessed various flops, making audiences and stakeholders all hope for the best for Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha releases on Rakshabandhan/Independence Day weekend. The theaters were showing indications of getting into an unending losing streak. But, thankfully, Ek Villain Returns had the power to end this cold streak and get something profitable going for itself, a relief for everyone involved.
The Mohit Suri-directed movie, Ek Villain Returns, made Rs. 23.54 crores in its opening weekend, with Rs. 9.02 crores coming in on Sunday. It’s an improvement when looking at its Friday and Saturday performance, as this movie has outshone its peers in the market with a marked ‘growth’. It has managed to be a part of the top 10 opening weekends for a Hindi release, along with big names like KGF – Chapter 2 and RRR, which are both dubbed versions of South films.
For many of the actors involved in Ek Villain Returns, this is an incomparably superior result when compared to their most recent cinematic appearances. John Abraham [Attack: Part 1], Arjun Kapoor [Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar], and Tara Sutaria [Heropanti 2] had much of their hopes pinned on Ek Villain Returns, while Disha Patani had to try and pick up from the successful conclusion of Malang. Though Ek Villain Returns may not be an outright hit, it should at least have the chance to make a bit of money at the box office, offering a measure of solace in these troubling times.
