Ek Villain Returns has managed to secure a lifetime collection of more than Rs. 40 crores in its first week alone, with Rs. 32.92 crores as the closing amount. This number could have been even more impressive if it had crossed Rs. 35 crores in its opening week as it would have put the film in contention to achieve the coveted Rs. 50 crores benchmark. However, the diminishing response in the weekdays have significantly hindered its progress.
Although the movie has not performed particularly well, compared to other films with a similar budget, scale, and cast, Ek Villain Returns has still managed to generate a respectable gross income of approximately Rs. 30–36 crores in its first week. It is a sign that the early OTT release, which was initially seen as a saving grace in 2020 and 2021, is proving to be detrimental in 2022, when theaters are open yet people are unwilling to enter them unless there is an especially spectacular movie showing. Nonetheless, Ek Villain Returns has still seen good numbers, putting it amongst the top ten films of the year.
For John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria, director Mohit Suri has made an impressive movie that has surely had a successful theatrical run, and will certainly do even better when it comes to OTT platforms, since apart from its initial opening weekend, there are more viewers eager to watch the thriller on their television screens.
