Much-talked about and highly-anticipated (Ajay Devgn), A sequel (2013 release) Drishyam, the suspense thriller that also stars Akshaye Khanna, Tabu and Shreya Sara—it’s said to take the story of the Salgaonkar family forward. Expectations were sky high for what was sure to be a smash success at theaters around Indian subcontinent. But fortunately enough it is living up to all expectations so far in limited showings: according to Variety, its latest Hollywood report states that after just two days of preview screenings on Nov 16th & 17th respectively , ‘Drishyam 2’ has made $400k domestically and nearly $600k internationally—that’s without factoring previews done with Hindi dubbing.
Now after its second day in theatres, Drishyam 2 has managed to cross the USD 1 million mark at the overseas box office. Collecting USD 1.56 million [Rs. 12.71 cr.] in just two days of its release, the business of the film seems to be unstoppable. Closely examined it becomes clear that this should come as no surprise with what we know about such American and Asian markets: The U.S., Canada, and UAE were three major territories bringing in approximately $1Million each within two days following Friday morning debut screenings – before Saturday evenings had even ended – thus accounting for nearly 55% of all earnings up until now (in comparison, Australian showings accounted for only 8%). Next are theaters located in both Scotland and Wales who experienced almost double those numbers due to demand or lack thereof among other patrons there when dealing with similar-budget films released alongside Drishyam 2.
When it was announced that the sequel to Drishyam would come out, people were not too surprised because they knew what to expect from a Rajeev Ravi film. However, after viewing this well received and favourably reviewed hit at the box office – estimates predict high popularity for Drishyam 2 in upcoming days. Business is already booming after just three days of being released- projections show there will be good opening weekend numbers as well.
