Achche Din are back in cinema once again. For the last twenty months or so, there were less than two or three popular films being released every month, but this past few weeks with Sooryavanshi coming out has had people come back to movie theaters and spend money on tickets again. It’s still early to say if Sooryavanshi will join the Rs. 100 Crore club (100 million rupees) within five days of its release but everything seems to point towards it being right around the corner!
On Tuesday, it collected Rs. 11.22 crores more and hence continued its double digit stand. As a result, the film’s total now stands at Rs. 102.81 crores which is truly impressive! What’s all the more heartening is that the film is trending quite well right from its huge first day (Diwali) till the fifth (a regular weekday). To think of it – The Akshay Kumar starrer could have done even better had he not been restricted to just 50% screen share in Maharashtra, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh among few other states as well as having night curfews in some areas where there was nothing running after 10pm anyways; but still, this wonderful performer managed to pick up an impressive amount nevertheless!
For producers Akshay Kumar and Rohit Shetty, this success was a dream come true; they waited an excruciatingly long time for the film to finally release – almost two years after it was first announced. They had to promote the movie when most people were too terrified of even going outside due to pandemic fears, and then had to fend off intense competition from other films once things got back to normalcy again. Ultimately though, their hard work paid off as Sooryavanshi emerged successful in spite of all odds.
With such huge levels of entertainment available on offer; anything less than blockbuster success would be disappointing. Now we’ll just have to wait and see how much further it can go before reaching its final destination. All said and done though – at least Rs 175 crore (2 billion rupees) is within reach – with some luck Sooryavanshi could become one of those rare Indian movies able to cross the magic Rs 200 crore (2 billion dollar) mark!
