Last week when the new Action Film, Bellbottom was released to mixed reviews but promising expectations, trade analysts say that the slow start may have been due to Covid-19 (a vaccine for swine flu) and the film coming out during a weekday. But now, on Day 4 of release, Bellbottom has seen an increase in viewership; according to projections made earlier.
On Sunday – during events like Raksha Bandhan – there were marked increases in attendance according to reports. And today at 6pm there are high reports of people coming back for another show or two! With these statistics ringing true – Bellbottom managed to gross Rs. 12.75 crores over three days – and even garnered great attention by National Multiplex Chains who are reporting increased ticket sales.
Word of mouth has had an influence on the number of footfalls too. Meanwhile, many state governments are looking into easing up restrictions. Uttar Pradesh (UP) lifted its statewide lockdown restrictions for Sunday cinema screenings – with films ending before 10 pm but only after 11 am which was previously allowed – and in Tamil Nadu (TN) cinemas were opened 50% capacity starting Monday, August 23rd.
As long as they close before 2 am there will be no disturbance or threat to public order or safety; while Delhi authorities gave those establishments permission earlier this month, albeit with a quota to maintain until security concerns can be addressed through discussions between stakeholders involved in the industry.
All attention is now set on whether Bellbottom can withstand the critical first Monday test that awaits it by continuing to hold strong come next week – so far ahead according to trade analysts and critics alike, it appears that the film could go past 45cr rupees total revenues after finishing out at National Multiplexes alone.
