Sooryavanshi exceeded everyone’s expectation and collected around Rs. 28.5-31 Crores on its opening day according to early estimates. The trade pundits expected it to open between Rs. 20-25 Crores but Sooryvanshi made history since this is the best first-day collection for a movie in recent times, especially during these days when there has been a nationwide closure for theaters due to the influenza pandemic.
It would have done even better had ticket reservations worked out well as morning shows were mildly affected by a late showcase of the movie in some national chains; but later on, occupancy increased with each passing show and was eventually running at full capacity by noon and evening session when people finally got over the fear of going out because they just couldn’t miss seeing this blockbuster starring Rajinikanth.
It recorded an astounding response in Gujarat and Maharashtra, which is what was anticipated. The latter outperformed or at least matched the previous pandemic era’s performance. Rohit Shettys brand value came through brilliantly in both states while his star Akshay Kumar also had a positive effect-especially on revenues from North Indian audiences. Whether it be movie theatres or DVD stores, the film garnered unprecedented revenue for day one of release; people were thronging all over to get their hands on a copy of Baaghi 2 no matter what state they hailed from.
