Rohit Shetty’s newest movie Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh managed to rake in nearly 13 crore rupees ($2.3 million) on Monday alone after pulling in around 90 crores ($14 million) over the holiday weekend across India. However, this major drop-off was expected considering it was coming off a week-long festival season that brought people out en masse for an extended period of time.
Gujarat is thriving at a heightened level because the film has already brought in thirty percent of its revenue solely from this state; which makes it an up-and-coming market worth exploring. Out of these earnings, fifty percent came from Gujarat and Maharashtra – two states which traditionally have been one of Rohit Shetty’s top markets. Surprisingly, Delhi/NCR was below average with only fifteen percent of total biz coming from here so far. It goes without saying that Sooryavanshi will most likely make over Rs.100 crore within five days since Tuesday to shows promise for good earning potential. With the first week bringing in about RS 120 crores, there is no doubt that it’ll become one of India’s greatest hits during these difficult times we’re living in now.
Audience feedback for Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is overwhelmingly positive, with good reviews all around. If it can reach 180 crores, we’ll officially give it the clean hit tag-though that doesn’t depend on just one factor; Friday numbers will also play an important role here. Let me extend my congratulations to everyone involved in making this happen-from Anil Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut, to Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty, who went through so much trouble to delay its release until now in order to showcase India’s love of cinema–and yes, Reliance.
