The Rohit Shetty-directed film Sooryavanshi opened last week to an overwhelming response from the audience. Starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in lead roles, with special appearances from Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn, the film was one of the most anticipated releases. In fact, being the first big ticket Bollywood entertainer to hit screens post-second lockdown -all eyes have been waiting for its success at the box office. But living up to expectations Sooryavanshi has done well so far taking in over Rs. 91.95 cr after four days at theaters which translates into a sure lock for making it into ‘the club’.
Collecting Rs. 102.81 cr in just five days of its release, Sooryavanshi has managed to become one of the fastest films to achieve this feat-surpassed only by other blockbuster movies like Baahubali 2 and Dangal. Interestingly, with its entry into the Rs. 100 Crore Club, Sooryavanshi has managed to accomplish some truly amazing things; it is now known as the first Marathi film ever to do so!
- Sooryavanshi has entered the Rs. 100 Crore club, becoming only the second film to do so in 2021.
- First to enter the said club since the Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior released in 2020.
- This is Akshay Kumar’s 15th movie to make over Rs. 100 crores at the box office; while it’s Rohit Shetty’s ninth movie and Katrina Kaif’s eighth movie to achieve this milestone.
- Despite Covid-19 restrictions limiting occupancy in theatres to 50% in certain key major markets, Sooryavanshi has achieved this milestone rather quickly when compared to before it existed.
Despite having already seen success in the box-office, it doesn’t seem like Sooryavanshi is anywhere near finished – if anything it’s only beginning to take off. As predicted (speculated), this film could very well fly off the charts with its ticket sales staying consistent for the next few weeks until we see a decline. This can almost guarantee that this movie will gross over Rs. 150 crores according to some reports.
