Earlier this year, we saw the release of a new film directed by Vivek Agnihotri titled The Kashmir Files. This movie featuring Anupam Kher was released at first with what seemed to be low ticket sales; but luckily it quickly picked up momentum – leading to high sales over the opening weekend. Positive reviews led people who might have missed out on this film when it was first released come out in droves in support of it – causing exponential growth rates during the weekdays after its debut.
Now in its sixth week, The Kashmir Files which has managed to hold its own with shows still playing in select locations, has seen a further Rs. 90 lakhs coming in. Interestingly, The Kashmir Files which fast became a rage, overshadowing other releases, has still retained a hold at the box office despite the release of two big ticket releases viz. RRR and KGF – Chapter 2.
Currently the total collections of the Vivek Agnihotri directorial are pegged at Rs. 252 crore . Going forward, it is estimated that The Kashmir Files will continue to run in a select few locations despite newer releases hitting screens. Though the film will run, its box-office impact on those new films won’t be significant with neither showing much effect on each other; instead it will only slowly dissipate over time like most movies do nowadays.
