After a slow start at the box office on Day 1, Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey has shown impressive growth in collections from Rs. 3 to Rs. 3.25 crores today (Day 2) which bring the two day total near Rs. 6 crs., showing a phenomenal jump of about 50%.
This opening can be called decent for this kind of film when compared to other films but not too impressive given the star power involved and that these are only limited shows across smaller screens and provinces; unless there is a sizeable jump tomorrow (on Saturday) we should expect an overall weekend total of around 18-19 crs., which would still qualify as ‘below average’ for this genre.
The movie will need to experience a sudden change in fortune this coming week if it wants to beat the half-century mark. Despite an encouraging increase of 60-65% in metropolitan areas – small town audiences were mostly static with only a minor increase of about 10%. However, the best news came from Punjab where ticket sales rose by as much as 75%-80%. The reason? This is a family film and if the movie manages to garner twice its Saturday revenue on Sunday – there may just be hope for our struggling industry yet!
