Yesterday, the highly anticipated release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness released nationwide. Months after publicity and announcements arose – finally debuting on Indian screens was greeted well by audiences eager to see what they had been waiting for so long. Positive reviews with an understanding audience sparked a frenzy before the film had even released- which understandably raised expectations to an all time high.
On its opening day, when moviegoers were given their chance to watch Doctor Strange for themselves – it quickly became clear that people who watched this newest Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure had left satisfied from watching one epic blockbuster after another! What became apparent too was how lucrative it would be if Indian cinema were marketed towards families too; because whilst this American superhero made $27.5 crore in just 24 hours across India (the 4th highest first-day gross ever!), some movies in Tamil haven’t even made half that amount here despite being home grown gems!
In addition to collecting over Rs. 70 crore in the opening weekend and sustaining that momentum for the next few days, the movie also fared much better than other releases such as Fast And Furious Presents: Hobbs And Shaw that earned Rs. 13 crores; Captain Marvel earned Rs. 12 crores; and Deadpool 2 who collected about 11 crores among many others. Trade predictions say that it will continue seeing an increase over its first two weekends, when it stands at a high probability of earning Rs. 72 crore from this past Friday-Sunday (Rs 62 crore).
It doesn’t end there though – because it’s one of the most awaited Hollywood release this year, business for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is expected to grow even more during its first two weeks after release with projections saying it could break past 100 crores from what it earns from Friday-Sunday alone (62+22)
