After much build-up, the Akshay Kumar starring film Samrat Prithviraj is set for release. Just a few weeks before hitting theaters, this movie has created even more excitement by changing its name – adding to the hype surrounding it. Add that to all of the promotion from cast members talking about this movie from every inch of social media available and you have yourself a winner.
Going by rough estimates, Samrat Prithviraj is expected to receive a launch in the vicinity of Rs. 10-11 crores, which interestingly has been reported as less than the recent release Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Nonetheless, if we take into consideration information from Bollywood Hungama, then it would seem that Samrat Prithviraj has managed to sell about 17,000 tickets at PVR, Inox and Cinepolis – accounting for only about half of what Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 sold on Thursday morning; around 45,000 tickets.
Despite this, it can be predicted that due to the promotional efforts made by Akshay Kumar, the film will see some pre-bookings; which in turn may result in success for the film. For Akshay this release is pivotal because his last production didn’t do well at all at the box office – something he needs to change right away.
Overall, for Samrat Prithviraj, word of mouth and spot bookings will need to play a crucial role for the movie to post higher than expected collections. Currently, the film is estimated to see an opening of around Rs. 10-11 cr on its first day, which incidentally is slightly lower than Bachchan Paandey’s first day estimate of 13.25 cr. However without much hype surrounding it or people having high interest in it – we won’t know if he manages to exceed expectations yet.
