The Tiger Shroff-starrer Heropanti 2 which released two weeks ago faced significant competition when it came to the Ajay Devgn-starrer Runway 34. Both films were overshadowed by KGF – Chapter 2, which continues its reign as one of the most successful Indian cinema export ever despite releasing just last month. Despite this, Heropanti 2 fared better in its second weekend than it did in its first weekend after bringing in an additional Rs 75 lakhs.
Industry insiders attribute this to the several other high profile releases taking place at the same time while others point towards the fact that due to how popular KGF 2 is (despite releasing only last month) there just wasn’t room for Heropanti 2 anymore. In addition to these factors, another new release (Doctor Strange) made waves as India’s 28th installment into Marvel Cinematic Universe series; generating much anticipation and fervor for a superhero film regardless of where you come from or what language you speak.
Currently, with total collections at Rs. 24.35 crores the future business prospects for Heropanti 2 seem grim. In fact, going by trade predictions Heropanti 2 faces competition not only from KGF – Chapter 2 and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness but also new releases such as Jayeshbhai Jordaar which has opened to over 2500 screens across India. Under these circumstances it remains unclear if Heropanti 2 will be able to maintain its screen presence during next week’s opening weekend.
