The Punjabi film Saunkan Saunkne starring Ammy Virk has already done well since its release last week. Despite the lack of recognition in some international markets such as Canada, it’s faring very well there too due to an influx of Indian immigrants and people interested in Bollywood-style movies which are quite popular in North America.
The film drew USD 109,254 (Rs. 85 lakh) in India when it was released on Friday, but after getting widespread success in Canada for example – where it opened with 29 screens and grossed $446,727 (3.48 cr.), making almost Rs 12 Cr from only two days at the box office- it seems that this movie might actually break even soon enough!
Coming in at the third spot for collections is Australia, where the film garnered 223, 156 A$ [Rs. 1.2 Cr.] from 39 screens. Coming in fourth place for overseas territories is UK and Ireland with a total of 97,864£ [Rs. 91 lakhs] from 36 screens respectively. While another foreign country – New Zealand – had only managed to accumulate Rs 35 lakhs from 12 screens (a mere 3-4% of what it made abroad), its performance in Germany was even worse at Rs 4 Lakhs from 14 Screens(0% growth). Looking into future predictions for overseas territories, Canada should expect an increase in their box office sales while the US market doesn’t seem too promising at this point.(Canada Box Office Prediction).
