After being delayed for three weeks, the Kangana Ranaut starrer Dhaakad was finally released on September 22nd in cinemas across India. But since then it has run into a number of obstacles – its promotional plans were thwarted when an influential Indian newspaper refused to review its films due to disagreements between the director and the paper; coupled with lacklustre reviews from critics and audiences alike, Dhaakad did not do well overseas either.
Despite releasing in over 300 screens abroad, there were barely any takers for the film outside India. On Day One alone, it collected just $2104 (approx Rs 12 lakhs) in Australia and New Zealand combined – way below expectations considering that Black Panther managed to rake up $10 million(Rs 68 crore) from these countries during its opening weekend.
