Dhaakad, starring Kangana Ranaut, released in theaters worldwide on Friday, including across 300+ screens overseas. Despite heavy promotion and being reviewed favorably, the film’s pre-release buzz was lackluster at best – which followed through to its opening weekend performance outside of India where it collected only Rs. 22,022 on its first day.
At home in India, Dhaakad was unable to maintain ticket sales or find an audience for two reasons: one there were too many other new releases for similar demographics; secondly because people could easily pirate copies online if they wanted free entertainment instead of paying theater prices – so after just two days abroad the film grossed a meager $22k USD (roughly 380K INR).
