The hotly anticipated blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 hit theaters last week on Friday. Starring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, it managed to rake in an impressive ₹14.11 crore on its opening day alone. Following this, the Bhushan Kumar – Murad Khetani production which was released across 3200 screens domestically saw an additional ₹18.34 crore come in on its second day; with the third-day collections jumping to yet another impressive ₹23.51 crore more being added to the tally sheet.
In this report, we examine the opening weekend numbers for producer and director Anees Bazmee’s newest release Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 while comparing it to films released after the pandemic. Making Rs. 55.96 crores, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 emerged as the fourth highest-grossing Indian film since then with a cinematic collection of nearly $79 million USD only behind KGF: Chapter II ($194 million), Sooryavanshi ($77 million) and RRR ($75 million). Interestingly, though it didn’t surpass collections from films like 83 ($47 million), Gangubai Kathiawadi ($39 million) or Bachchhan Paandey (£36million), it managed to outperform those aforementioned titles plus others such as Antim: The Final Truth (£18million), Heropanti 2 (£16million) and Unbreakable Spirit (£13million).
As of now, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 continues to run as the audiences’ first choice in theatres. And it doesn’t seem like it will stop anytime soon. In fact, the film has been seeing heavy patronage from the theatre-going family audience, which has driven the business of the film in both the metros and mass sectors. But this isn’t just because there’s nothing else out there either; even trade prediction sites are saying that by week’s end – a full 7 days since release – they predict that ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ will cross 120 crore rupees!
