After earning a worldwide revenue of over $223 million on its first day, Rajamouli’s (R) much-anticipated historical film ‘RRR’ has continued to dominate the box office. Our calculations show that ‘RRR’ earned $133 million yesterday – taking it to a two-day total of over $353 million. These numbers are overwhelming; we’ve never seen anything like this before. This weekend also provides RRR with the opportunity to reach $500 million at the global box office, which is unbelievable for something without a release in China.
Yesterday, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana together made up $40 million dollars; whilst Hindi took home about $29 million dollars for the whole day (so far). Tamil Nadu remained steady at about $10 million; Kerala made up only $3million so far. Karnataka and other states contributed another $10 million – taking the all-India earnings so far to over$102 million.
On top of this, estimates have suggested that the film has collected about Rs. 100-120 crores in the international market on Saturday, taking the worldwide second day figure to Rs. 218-240 crores. The second day figure of RRR is bigger than the lifetime total (including) 80% Indian films while the two days combined biz is higher than its 241%.
The movie will continue with its rampage at the ticket windows, as a jump in collection is expected on Sunday, with a possibility of even clocking around RS 200 crores (US$3 million), to take three day total upside of Rs. 500 crore ($7 million). These would be career best figures for both Jr NTR and Ram Charan, and it also has the chance of being cinema’s widest release ever reaching 3 billion dollars world wide by surpassing Bahubali 2 (which made $527 million).
