The widely acclaimed directorial work of Vivek Agnihotri has been successful so far. It started out modestly, but soon proved its worth both financially and in quality to trade analysts, audiences and alike. On week three now, it has managed to make an additional Rs. 20.85 cr – taking the film from the ninth position for all time third weekend grossers to the eighth spot that held by Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan with only about 200 million rupees less than what that film had made at its time of release.
This is despite starting out very differently from how Bajrangi Bhaijaan did back then; as The Kashmir Files was released only four days after its last cinematic release this year was eclipsed by pre-release business whereas Bajrangi Bhaijaan came during a lacklustre period where there weren’t many people going around cinemas.
Though the opening weekend for The Kashmir Files was able to bring in a significant chunk of revenue, it failed to keep up with many of its competitors who brought in higher numbers during their respective openings. For example, Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion grossed Rs. 42.55 crores; Dangal made Rs. 31.79 crores; Tanhaji-The Unsung Warrior made Rs. 27.48 crores; PK made Rs. 26.75 crores; Uri-The Surgical Strike made 24 crores; Kabir Singh earnedRs 22.52 crores andSanju managed to collect 20 crore rupees by the end of its first week(though this is lower than expectations). As for now, the film continues running but analysts predict that it will start slowing down when RRR hits theaters due out at the same time which stars SS Rajamouli as director and Vivek Agnihotri as producer/director.
