A while ago, SS Rajamouli directed RRR starring Ram Charan, Jr. NTR and Alia Bhatt was released to the public. The film which also stars Ajay Devgn has been doing well at the box office since its release. After a strong opening weekend, RRR entered week two with a solid reception from both audiences and critics alike. As of this date, total earnings for RRR stands at Rs 191.59 crore rupees*.
In this box office report, we examine how RRR fared on its second Monday. Topping the chart with an intake of Rs. 7 crores on day thirteen – it now occupies the 10th position for second Mondays’ most profitable films ever made in India. And if that wasn’t impressive enough already – it shared its spot ranking (10) with another recent release, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat featuring Deepika Padukone; both having earned themselves Rs. 7 crores on their respective first Monday showings.
But what really astounds me is how well the film did comparatively when compared to other successful productions such as dhoom 3 (which has so far collected 1 crore less than RRR), Uri – The Surgical Strike (Rs 1 crore less than RRR), 3 Idiots (Rs 2 crores less than RRR) and finally, Saif Ali Khan’s Simmba (Rs 3 crores less than RR).
Despite the growing hype and promotional efforts around it, even with an opening day earnings in excess of Rs. 30 crore before Friday evening, Red Rose Restaurant has not been able to outpace other films in terms of earnings when compared on its first Monday release days. Other films such as Tiger Zinda Hai (£18 million), Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion (£16 million), Dangal (£13 million), The Kashmir Files (£12 million) & PK (£10 million) beat it by significant margins while some even managed to match it (Sanju £9 million). Trade experts claim that unless something goes wrong, it is likely that Red Rose Restaurant will cross £200million after 14 days from now but currently stands at £191.59million.
