Akshay Kumar’s latest box-office release Sooryavanshi has done roaring business since its release last week. It has been directed by Rohit Shetty and stars Akshay himself alongside Katrina Kaif, who starred in the film too with cameo appearances from Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn. As one of the most awaited Bollywood entertainment releases of recent times, it lived up to expectations when it opened on a thunderous note. And though it tapered off slightly after three days, it still remained relatively strong through until Friday!
After establishing a huge lead at the box office post release, Sooryavanshi showed no signs of slowing down. With an average daily collection reaching over Rs.150 crore per day, it seems unlikely that this film will stop breaking records anytime soon. It even amassed an extra Rs.4 lakhs in revenue on its second Monday – which translates to around Rs.155 crores for its current lifetime earnings.
Though it was overshadowed by Kesari this year, the company Sooryavanshi has managed to collect Rs. 164.85 cr (more than what Akshay Kumar did this year). He previously released films such as Good News which collected Rs. 205.14cr, Mission Mangal which collected Rs. 202.98cr, Housefull 4 which collected Rs. 194.60cr and 2.0 which had collected Rs 189.55cr – yet Sooryavanshi has achieved more success than these films combined! His most successful film was Toilet: Ek Prem Katha which made 134.22cr followed closely behind by Rowdy Rathore which made 133 25cr, Airlift which made 128 1CR, and Rustom which made 127 49 CR respectively.(Source)
Going off the current trend, it seems likely that Sooryavanshi will stay up at number one for an entire week without competition. Instead of being surprised when this film earns enough money to surpass Rs.175 crore in total earnings, we should all start expecting it! With this success story coming to light after such turmoil during the pandemic, it proves how much people are willing to go out and see movies regardless of all the risks they take.
