Just two weeks ago, Sooryavanshi surpassed Baaghi 2’s lifetime gross ($166 million) which broke records last year and has been praised as one of the best Indian films. Despite being made on a much smaller budget than the Akshay Kumar-starring Tiger Shroff blockbuster, the fact that it could achieve this incredible feat is an example of how quality filmmaking will always attract a massive audience.
In fact, Baaghi 2 producer Sajid Nadiadwala would be elated about these results, considering he has another two movies releasing in December – Tadap and ’83 – and Sooryavanshi has set up what should be an exciting festive season for audiences who want something different from all the usual Christmas releases.
Next up is Race 3 which had sky high expectations due to its star Salman Khan. Despite this, the movie has collected only Rs. 169 crores so far and is being seen as below par. It will be interesting to see if it reaches Rs. 170 crore before the day ends or whether there are still about four million rupees left for them to collect by tomorrow morning.
The movie currently stands at Rs. 166.23 crores after making an additional 3.16 crore rupees yesterday – which puts it at around 174-180 crore rupees range before the end of Sunday’s business hours comes up; however another big competitor remains in Bang Bang (Rs. 181 crores), that could surpass Race 3 by Monday possibly or even Tuesday
Note: All collections are taken from production and distribution sources.
