With Christmas now behind us and the new year approaching, both Sooryavanshi and Bunty Aur Babli 2 experienced a significant decrease in box office numbers. For Sooryavanshi this isn’t surprising given that it’s third consecutive week at the cinema while Bunty Aur Babli 2 had a chance to succeed with its first weekend but unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations. Given the lack of success from these two films, many people think that we’ll see less Hindi movies opening next year. Regardless of what happens next, this holiday season has left some very clear winners such as Akshay Kumar whose latest movie Sooryvanshi has earned an astounding 180.4 crore rupees-the highest grossing Hindi film of all time!
Firstly, Bunty aur Babli-2 has only been released in a few upscale theaters thus far and the results have not panned out as expected. Collections were particularly low at Rs. 1 crore*; making the first week end around Rs. 12 crores*, if lucky*. With newer releases arriving this week, there is no more time left for revival and what little hope was left vanished when it came to light that collections were already abysmal from the start – something which will most likely culminate in giving them no chance whatsoever next week either.
Disaster.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
