After much anticipation from fans of the original, Yash Raj Films’ Bunty Aur Babli 2 starring Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji along with newcomers Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari Wagh finally made it to theatres earlier this month. But despite being paired up once again for a movie after many years – there was little interest for the upcoming flick amongst audiences. Despite releasing across 1800 screens in India, the film only collected Rs. 8.3 crore over its opening weekend before things slowed down considerably during weekdays where they’ve only been able to earn Rs. 3.2 crore in total so far.
For Bunty Aur Babli 2, it’s an over and out scenario. With the first week collections totaling up to only Rs. 11.15 crores, the movie will probably never reach this number even in a conservative estimate of two days at the cinema theatre. Audiences weren’t drawn well enough to see actors Saif Ali Khan or Rani Mukherji on screen which led them to stay away from theaters nationwide. The weekend was flat for BABLI2–though weekday ticket sales dropped drastically after Monday morning screenings began-the film grossed barely Rs 16 cr nett approx after its opening day on Friday.
