Kabir Khan directed sports bio-pic 83 starring Ranveer Singh, released last month to a good response from the critics. However the film did not really connect with mass dominated sectors outside metros. But in the overseas market 83 which was based on India’s iconic win at the 1983 cricket World Cup has been doing well; drawing 8.27 million USD [Rs. 61.52 crores] so far!
In this Box Office Report we take a look at how well 83 did in other countries and compare it to earlier releases from 2021. Unsurprisingly, the much-hyped film managed to surpass Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi which pulled in $8.2 million for an overseas gross of Rs. 61 crores, making it the top release for this year thus far! But beyond just the main competitor, how does 83 stack up against previous films like Radhe?
Its sequel Bellbottoms? Or Antim? You’ll find that it goes toe-to-toe with them all- until it comes down to revenue per capita or inflation differences where they may pull ahead. Still when you compare its numbers with each other head on, as well as make an educated guess as what might happen in terms of carryover earnings if these reviews don’t change anything soon…you’ve got yourself one blockbuster hit!
