Yesterday’s column that Rajkummar Rao – Bhumi Pednekar’s Badhaai Do would kick off with somewhere between one to two crore rupees in its opening. The prediction was accurate, as the film debuted at Rs. 1.65 crore.
Two months , the LGBTQ+ subject film Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui began with Rs. 3.75 crores, despite lesser restrictions and with theatres already having been open for several weeks. Badhaai Do’s purpose is to reattract patrons to the cinemas, so the start it has made is more than adequate to spark interest.
With positive reviews, the film has a great chance of spreading by word of mouth. There is also a high likelihood of success in major city multiplexes due to a lack of competition.
When Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui was playing last year, it sawits profits grow from Rs. 3.75 crores to Rs. 4.87 crores by Saturday. Though Badhaai Do is unlikely to match this figure, if it can exceed Rs. 3 crores then that would still be an impressive amount of growth, leading to a far better turnout in the future. The movie, starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, should have a sustained performance in the coming days.
