Saaho [Hindi] will continue its domination of the box office with collections increasing on Saturday. On Friday, the film grossed Rs. 24.40 crore; while on Saturday, it earned an extra Rs. 25.20 crore– enough to keep people coming back for more in spite of negative reviews from critics claiming that people would stop showing up at theaters once word got out about how bad this movie really is/was.
There may be advanced ticketing done before hand, but when you factor in current bookings – this very much leaves a lasting impression and supports my theory that Saaho has much longer legs than we could ever expect given all of the negativity around it earlier this week.
In the past there were films where reviews were objectively bad and word of mouth was equally as negative because of which declines had been sharp. This was actually very evident in all three Khan movies from last year, Aamir Khan’s Thugs Of Hindostan, Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero, and Salman Khan’s Race 3. Out of the three movies mentioned, Race 3 managed to do decently well at least.
But even so, it may still be too early for Saaho – modeled after what feels like a copycat version of Race 3 – to sustain its theatrical run. The Prabhas-Shraddha Kapoor-Neil Nitin Mukesh starrer has so far gathered Rs. 49.60 crores (49 thousand 600 hundred rupees) but if the momentum doesn’t stay strong then they’re going to lose close to fifty crore rupees (50 million rupees).
