The Pawan Kalyan starring Bheemla Nayak released last week and has done well in the past few days. Despite stiff competition from other films, including Gangubai Kathiawadi and Valimai- this Telugu movie seems to have stolen away a lot of people’s attentions. However, according to reports coming from the overseas market- it is clear that the movie might not do as well as its competitors at North America box office because of those two films.
Touted as one of India’s most eagerly awaited films in recent times, Bheemla Nayak had a strong opening weekend at the North American box office. The film grossed $1.98 million US dollars (Rs 14.97 crores) and has since emerged as the front-runner amongst other contenders including Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiwadi ($1.08 million US dollars or Rs 8.16 crores) and Ajith’s Valimai ($359 thousand US dollars or Rs 2.70 crores).
While these numbers are impressive, they are also indicative of how hotly contested this year has been for movies both Indian and international alike looking to cash in on audiences’ thirst for quality cinema. Given this start though it appears that Bheemla Nayak will continue to grow its collections over the coming weeks with Gangubai Kathiwadi depending heavily on positive word-of-mouths from moviegoers to close the gap.
North America Box Office at a glance:
