The Alia Bhatt starring film Gangubai Kathiawadi released last week and has since taken the country by storm! Opening strong, the business of this film grew exponentially throughout its opening weekend; earning record numbers for both Saturday and Sunday. The momentum carried on throughout Monday too with people praising the quality of both acting and plot line – enthralled by all it had to offer. Now in its second week at theaters, this movie was bound to do well but even so it did much better than anticipated! Collecting Rs. 68.93 crore already after one week – beating out many other popular films right now!
In this Box Office Report, we take a look at Gangubai Kathiawadi’s opening week earnings – which have surpassed the earnings of 2 States for Alia Bhatt to make it her fourth highest all-time opener week grosser. While Gully Boy still takes the lead with an incredible Rs. 100 crore, both Kalank and Badrinath Ki Dulhania come second and third place respectively, collecting Rs. 73 crore each to reach their totals of Rs. 73 crore (Alia) and 73.6 crore (Alia).
Only beating the collection of Raazi is something many fans were impressed by; but what surprised us was how much it had earned against so many other huge hits such as Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniyaa that collected only 48 crores – less than 1/3rd of what Gangubai Kathiawadi has made!
Currently, Gangubai Kathiawadi which has received popularity from the theater-goers – still continues to play in theaters. Alongside this, there was no pandemic protocol being enforced; and theaters resumed their normal operation with 100% occupancy of seats – which increases chances for movie profits. Trade estimates also say that Gangubai Kathiawadi will most likely experience increased collections over its second weekend because of how popular it is now. With this much momentum, since the film has already reached almost $100 million just after two weeks – it is quite possible that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest creation will make up or surpass its goal by the time movie theaters stop showing it around next Friday evening.
