The Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed film starring Alia Bhatt, Gangubai Kathiawadi was one of the most successful films to hit theaters this year. Opening on a positive note, which was only built from there as it went strong for two weeks consecutively, now with its second weekend approaching, it shows no signs of slowing down either.
In this box office report, we take a look at the second-weekend collections of Gangubai Kathiawadi while comparing the same to previously released female-centric films. Collecting Rs. 23.29 cr Gangubai Kathiawadi surpasses the Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi that had collected Rs. 14.35 cr to become the second highest all time female centric film release in India ever!
Leading the list is another Kangana Starrer Tanu Weds Manu Returns which also took home over 28 crores and has been named India’s most successful female centric film so far; however, Gangubai Kathiawadi does out beat the second weekend business of certain other releases like Raazi (21cr), Veere Di Wedding (12cr), Dear Zindagi (10cr) , and Ragini MMS2 (6cr).
Currently, Gangubai Kathiawadi continues to play in theaters while also facing the challenge of newer films coming out this week such as Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund and Hollywood movie The Batman. However, industry experts predict continued growth for Gangubai Kathiawadi even if it has competition from other films because it is expected to outperform them in its second week.
