The Anupam Kher-starring film The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri and released a week ago, has been unstoppable at the box office. After opening on an initial small sum of Rs. 3.55 crore on Day 1, it grew exponentially with every subsequent day until it had collected Rs. 97.30 crore in its first 7 days.
Not surprisingly, the film (The Kashmir Files) receiving immense reactions from critics and audience alike has been raking in the moolah. When compared to some of the previous releases – The Kashmir Files rank as 45th all-time highest opening week grosser. In fact, the first week business for this movie has managed to surpass collections for certain other movies – including Akshay Kumar starrer Toilet – Ek Prem Katha ($96 million), Total Dhamaal ($94 million), M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story ($94 million) and even Salman Khan starrer Jai Ho ($88 million). Though still far away from topping lists of highest opening weeks ever, The Kashmir Files show continues to stun trade and industry experts with its box office performance.
Going forward, with the upcoming festive weekend of Holi right around the corner, predictions are that the business of this film will only get higher. In fact, advance assumptions state that The Kashmir Files – which has increased by 50% in theaters and showings – will see its earnings skyrocket with a high likelihood of crossing the Rs. 120cr mark at the end of its second weekend.
