The much-talked-about and heavily anticipated new film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released two weeks ago. As an action-packed blockbuster, it had been given high expectations which it did live up to for most of its time – after all, advance ticket sales were available a month ahead of time! However, things began slowing down on the first Monday when it came out.
Despite this being considered one of the worst openings in Marvel history, there are still some people who went to see it that week because they knew what to expect and just wanted to see it through until the end or feel satisfied with what they watched no matter how bad things got. The following few days showed very low numbers so even if someone wasn’t going to wait until opening day anymore they might not want to waste their money either. At the end of its first week, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made Rs. 101.49 crore (1).
As the film draws to an end, it has collected Rs. 18.32 crores over two weeks and now stands at a grand total of Rs. 119.81 crores nationwide. This is a good amount for any Marvel superhero movie but less than what was garnered by other films in the same genre, like Spider-man: Homecoming which set new records for collections when it came out last year and even had bigger earnings overseas than it did domestically according to Box Office Mojo.
With newer films – Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Dhaakad scheduled for release this weekend, Doctor Strange’s time on screen will be short lived before being pushed off by these newcomers with big budgets that could mean higher revenue numbers overall so things are looking grim for him come Friday afternoons when we look back through the calendar months of October or November.
