Doctor G has opened at approximately Rs. 3.87 crores per theater across India. Because films such as Doctor G are targeted toward a smaller and more specific audience, they don’t tend to fare too well when it comes to earning money in comparison to movies with broader appeal (post pandemic). With Ayushmann Khurranna starring as the protagonist for Doctor G, we expected the film to open anywhere from Rs 8-10 cr but received only about Rs 5 crore which was shocking considering how generous moviegoers were last year – averaging out near Rs 4 cr per theater from what we can tell. Doctor G’s opening could have been predicted if 2022 wasn’t such an unpredictable year–around 5-6 cr is closer to what we should expect going forward if anything…
Nevertheless, the good news is that there is some appreciation for the film as well, and when contrasted with Chandigarh Ke Aashiqui, there is at least a little more broad audience. Of course, that movie was about Ayushmann falling in love with a girl after her sex change operation and this one is about him turning into a male gynaecologist – which implies we’re still viewing an limited set of viewers.
