Last week we watched Dharmaveer go live in theaters for the first time. When it debuted, the movie had a mediocre showing, but eventually gained significant momentum during the weekend due to rave reviews on social media. This was quite an accomplishment given how competitive this year has been for Bollywood releases – even those that were opening wide like Jayeshbhai Jordaar could not take away all of Dharmaveer’s appeal.
Well now after one whole week in theaters, it has managed to gross over thirteen million rupees! The success was largely attributed to people residing in districts such as Thane, Kalyan, Dombivali and Pune who made up a majority of viewers. It is also important to note how critically acclaimed this movie is – because while other newer movies might have higher stars or budget allocations they are missing what audiences want; making them less likely to succeed going forward when faced with stiff competition (although maybe a little too niche-y).
