Street Dancer 3D saw a drop in earnings on Monday, the fourth day of release, when it raked in only Rs. 4.40 to 5.40 crore against its previous earning of 30 to 40 crores per day; bringing the total collection near 46 crores after four days. This significant drop is indicative of a failure – as Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, and Prabhudeva couldn’t show an increase or continued viewership over the weekend – especially considering they started off poorly at just 28 crores on Friday alone. The first week earnings are now estimated to end at around 60 crores instead of 80crores previously predicted; so far the word-of-mouth from audiences has been negative according.
The Remo D’Souza directed film, which lacked cohesion in the masses, disappointed with viewers who are used to seeing his films do well. Multiplexes suffered and people were unimpressed. If it had been able to bring in 8 crores on opening day it could have sustained an upward trajectory – but instead it fell below what Varun Dhawan’s previous films did at the box office and failed even more miserably than Kalank did.
The latest movie released this week, Panga also received a disappointing response from the viewers. Contrary to initial reports suggesting the film has collected around Rs. 2 Crore on its opening day, Box Office India reported that Panga had only collected Rs. 1 Crore (approximately $0.15 million) in its first weekend of release and its 4-day cumulative collection amounts to only Rs. 5 Crores (approximately $0.72 million). This is disappointing news for both the actors and production company behind the project – as well as other investors who have backed them financially – after it was previously reported that they had invested over Rs. 40 Crores ($6 million) into this venture.
Tanhaji continues its tremendous success at the box-office on Monday, collecting approximately Rs. 4.25 -4.5 crore. This number is just a slight decrease from the 3rd Friday where Tanhaji collected about 6 crores (Rs.). As it nears 250 crores (Rs.), Tanhaji will undoubtedly become an epic blockbuster hit!
