Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan has recorded a jump of 20% on Saturday as early estimates suggests collections in the range of Rs. 10.90 to 12 crore, taking the two day total around the 20 crore mark. The biz has gone up primarily at the multiplexes in the five cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata, while the single screens continued to remain dull. Even in the five metros, it is Delhi that is over-performing at the moment which has pushed the film to the 20 crore mark. Multiplex films usually record bigger jumps on Saturday, but SMZS had over-performed on Day one as it was coming off the Maha Shivratri holiday. It’s a taboo subject which has curtailed its reach but even the on-ground reports among the target audience is not outright positive as per the limited sample size analysed.
The response to Ayushmann Khurrana’s Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan has not been as glowing as his previous two comedies Dream Girl and Bala, but its performance on Monday will provide a clearer picture. At the moment, it looks like the film is on track to collect 33 to 35 crores over its opening weekend, which is a respectable result but needs to maintain momentum during the weekdays to reach the 70 crore mark and be deemed a success for the producers.
Bhoot, the second film released this week, appears to have done well as initial figures suggest earnings of between Rs 5.65 to 6.75 crore. This is an encouraging sign and it might just help the movie breach the 20 crore weekend mark. Another encouraging factor for this Vicky Kaushal starrer is that it appeals to a wider audience, increasing the chance for a bigger leap on Sunday. Ultimately, the success of the film will depend on the results of the critical Monday test.
The prognosis is far from positive, especially for the second week, so it will be captivating to observe how the movie does from the beginning of the week. Lifetime earnings of 40 crore or more would be a decent outcome, however, the current trends have been somewhat inadequate. Sunday and Monday should bring a more evident perspective of the movie’s trajectory.
