As the hotly awaited collaboration between Starlet of Bollywood Kartik Aaryan and Hollywood actress Sara Ali Khan –Love Aaj Kal released yesterday amid mixed reviews; it was inevitable for there to be speculation around its success before it even hit the theatres. However, due to heavy promotions coupled with an overwhelming number of advanced bookings; the movie saw an encouraging start after collecting Rs. 12.40 Cr in just one day. This means that it managed to outdo stars Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor who starred together in Street Dancer 3D which collectedRs 9.50 cr on its first release- making it India’s second highest grossing opening film of 2020 so far!
On the first day of its release, Love Aaj Kal managed to make more money than some other films that came out recently. For example, Malang made about Rs. 6.71 crore in revenue, Chhapaak made about Rs. 4.77 crore in revenue; Jawaani Jaaneman made about Rs. 3.24 crore and Panga made about Rs 79 lakhs- but Love Aaj Kal surpassed them all on the first day with over 17 crores! There were many people at the theaters because of Valentine’s Day week-end but now we’ll see if it can last for another week or two without being beaten by new movies coming out this week or next month when everything will change again…
