Chhapaak opened up to largely mixed reviews, collecting Rs. 28.38 crores in its first week at the box office. Though the film had a strong opening day with Rs. 4.77 crores coming in on Friday- the momentum didn’t hold steady for long and soon petered out altogether, ending up as an average release overall- something most anticipated from this holiday season release anyways considering how saturated this time of year is for films of all types looking for audiences’ attention
Ideally, the first weekend’s earnings should have come before this coming week because that would indicate acceptance from a wider audience segment. However, for now, it is only elitists who seem to have stepped in for the film with most of its audiences choosing a much more accessible and commercial Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior.
Deepika Padukone has been receiving praise for her work in Chhapak (which literally translates to Clap) and will soon be seen in 83 alongside Ranveer Singh in what will be one of her biggest films yet. Promotion campaigns surrounding Kabir Khan’s latest venture are already underway and should see her return to prominence at least on an equal level if not higher than what we were used to seeing previously.
