There will soon be a third installment of the movie series that began with Dabangg! There have been many movies which reuse actors, but are different in other ways. Yet, few movies can provide an interesting story or even bring back the same characters – and those tend to do well among audiences because they provide another aspect to the narrative without disrupting it.
Salman Khan has had an amazing time in his career ever since he released Dabangg. Ever since then, he’s gone on to score over a dozen consecutive centuries without fail. He’s even got both double and triple centuries in there! While neither Dabangg nor its sequel have reached the Rs. 200 Crores Club, expectations for Dabangg 3 are at an all-time high due to it being directed by Prabhu Deva – who also directed WANTED with Salman Khan – this time around.
The movie’s promotional campaign was successful among its target audience- the middle class, mainly because it received a lukewarm reception from the urban theater audiences. Unlike Bharat and Tiger Zinda Hai which appealed to elites – both modern and traditional – as well as upper-middle class folks, this is an intrinsically regional affair that caters mostly to local tastes. It should do well in single theaters close to rural areas but shouldn’t perform too badly in cities outside of Mumbai; I expect we’ll see positive reviews for this one by Friday evening if there’s no strong competition coming up soon.
For now, the film is just taking off. Reports say it should open with Rs. 28 – 32 crores and if they’re true then we can expect that this movie has already reached Rs. 100 Crore Club in the opening weekend itself!
