In this column it was predicted that Dabangg 3 would open at a minimum of Rs. 28-30 crore and at best the numbers could go up, but since there is no hype for this movie among the intelligentsia (like there was for Bharat), people are less optimistic about how much money it will make.
Opening day numbers for the movie were lower than expected. The film only made Rp. 24.5 crores and not many saw this coming. It was clear that protests in some parts of India affected attendance rates but it is also true that excitement about seeing a Salman Khan movie wasn’t what it used to be which contributed to these lackluster results.
The Prabhu Dheva directed film has garnered mixed reviews so far. Neither have the majority of reviewers bashed nor patted this film on its back; they’ve considered it a typical Salman Khan-Dabangg template entertainer, which will likely do well with mass audiences at the box office. Multiplex visitors may not find much interest in this movie unless they go see it anyway. Though there was speculation about how well the film would do financially before release based on buzz and hype, those projections will not be fulfilled due to limited success at the box office so far.
