The Akshay Kumar – Kareena Kapoor Khan starring blockbuster Good News opened in 3,100+ theaters last week. After a modest start with Rs 17.56 cr earned on its opening day, the momentum of this release increased significantly from Friday through to Sunday when it pulled an additional Rs 21.78 cr and then an additional 25.65cr respectively for Saturdays and Sundays combined.
Now after its first weekend showing, we take a look at the collections of Good News while comparing them to recent releases this year. With a total of Rs. 64.99 cr, Good News comes in as the 7th highest opening weekend grosser of 2019 and though it has surpassed films like Kalank that collected Rs. 62.75 cr, Total Dhamaal that collected Rs. 62.40 cr and Super 30 which only managed to collect Rs., 50.76 cr – it did not beat other big ticket films from this year including War which earned an impressive box office collection of Rs.; 166.25 crores; Bharat which earned over INR150 crore; Mission Mangal earning over 97 crore; Saaho getting over 79 crores; Dabangg 3 collecting over 78 crores and finally Kabir Singh collecting over 70 crores
Currently, Good News continues to play in theaters around the country. However, it has competition from films released earlier this month such as Dabangg 3 starring Salman Khan. Despite this, the film is still expected to make profit at ticket sales over the coming weekdays. In fact, forecasts predict that it could go pass the Rs. 100 cr mark soon and keep going up in sales until it finishes its theatrical run.
