With Tuesday becoming partially closed for business due to New Year eve, Good News saw a huge surge in profit. The film made Rs. 16.20 crores more (a large sum) compared to its predecessors because of its particular genre and intended audience despite being limited mainly to movie theaters with only few other screens participating. Even though it did not meet the criteria for house full, the film was still able to make over half way there at most of the locations where it showed up.
The movie has had an impressive opening weekend with collections of Rs.13, 41 crores on Monday alone. The most surprising part about the movie is how it continues to grow each day without slowing down- only increasing. On Friday it opened at Rs.17, 56 crores while now it stands at less than a crore shy of that number at Rs 17, 55 crores but still going strong!
The movie starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor has earned over Rs. 94 crore from Indian audiences alone! It will likely surpass the 100 crore mark by today afternoon – making it not only one of his most successful releases but also fourth highest grossing for him in a single calendar year! Next stop? The 200 crore club! When 1st January comes around, people will flock to theatres nationwide because of their new public holiday status.
