Now in its second week, Rani Mukherji’s newest film Mardaani 2 is projected to have earned a little over Rs. 50 crores ($7 million USD) so far – making it the largest solo earning of Ms. Mukkerji’s career thus far. Just this past weekend alone, Mardaani 2 made an additional Rs. 1.35 crores (USD $212 thousand). Comparatively speaking, Ms. Mukkerki’s earlier release Hichki netted about 46 crore rupees ($676 thousand USD) in total earnings before being shut out at the box office this month; though Mardaani 2 has quickly surpassed those numbers after only 3 weeks!
As we can see here, movies are most successful when they’re able to capture an audience using both intriguing acting performances and dynamic storytelling – something which seems to be no problem for both Rani Mukerji as well as directors Kabir Khan or Pradeep Sarkar [2].
It has been confirmed that Mardaani 3 will be directed by Aditya Chopra. Though Mardaani 2 may not reach the Rs. 50 crores mark, we can only hope that Mardaani 3 is well-received when released with a lot of hype; and eventually becomes even more successful than it deserves to be.
