All three new releases – Bhangra Paa Le, Sab Kushal Mangal, and Shimla Mirchi – have flopped at the box office. When looking at what kind of earnings they’ve received so far, they should have just been released digitally instead. There were strong talks about Bhangra Paa Le being streamed directly to the OTT platform but those rumors were quickly debunked when the film made it onto a select few movie theaters. Similarly, there was never any talk about Sab Kushal Mangal even though it took half a decade for its release. However, we did hear some murmurs suggesting that older movie Shimla Mirchi could’ve taken this route too; which explains its delay in production after all this time has passed.
The numbers tell the story for these three movies. While Bhangra Paa Le had a larger release, its weekend total still didn’t come close to 2 crores*. And while Sab Kushal Mangal did make money compared to Bhangra Paa Le, it only brought in about 1 crore* over the course of this past weekend. Shimla Mirchi wasn’t doing well either with less than 25 lakhs* (which is approximately 0.25 crores*) being collected during this time period and barely any people buying tickets at single-screen theaters!
Fortunately, Good News was playing everywhere else and has become a clear favorite among audiences because on Friday come Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Chhapaak and Darbaar which will take up most of the theater space throughout this week’s lineup. Sadly though these new releases were commercially unsuccessful theatrically but hopefully they’ll do well on satellite or digital broadcasts too!
