Deepika Padukone’s latest release CHHAPAAK will be releasing this Friday. It comes only two years after MEGHNA GULZAR released a blockbuster with ALIA BHATT as the lead actress in RAAZI. Once again, MEGHNA has focused her attention on portraying female characters – and DEEPIKA PADUKONE (as the lead actress) went all out to ensure that there would be a good amount of hype about it.
This time though it wasn’t an ordinary entertainer-type film, so it got significantly less press than before when the trailer came out. But now because of these recent events – where DEEPIKA attended an event that led some people to think she supports JNU students who were jailed for sedition charges – people are going wild about everything related to the film! Even if some people don’t agree with her views; they’re giving her enough publicity by talking about her visit.
All these factors mean that this Fox Star Studios production will open at around Rs. 5 crores. This number is good enough, considering it has competition from both Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior and then also Good News which are still doing well in theaters. If the opening numbers do come out to be around Rs. 5 crores, there should be some small success from word of mouth driving additional movie-goers through the final few days of the film’s release period.
