Two years ago, Aamir Khan – famously known as Bollywood’s ‘Perfectionist Khan’ – developed a unique formula to determine the success of any movie. According to him, one needs to observe the opening weekend figures and compare it with the total collection. For example, 3 Idiots grossed Rs. 40 crores in its first weekend and Rs. 202 crores throughout its entire run; hence, if the ratio of opening weekend earnings divided by total income yields a 5x or higher result, then that film has been widely accepted. Conversely, he said “If a movie makes 100 crores within three days and 200 crores overall then it is not good” We used this technique to assess the recent hit Chhichhore starring Sushant Singh Rajput in order to determine its true success rate.
With collections of Rs. 144.60 crore, Chhichhore has made a smashing impact, exceeding expectations by a huge margin! Still running in cinemas across the nation, the film is steadily nearing the Rs. 150 crore mark. If Aamir Khan’s formula is anything to go by, Chhichhore earned an impressive Rs. 35.98 crore over its opening weekend – delivering an amazing multiple of 4.02!
Aamir Khan’s theory was proved right when Chhichhore became one of the most successful films of 2019, second only to Uri – The Surgical Strike which had a multiple of 6.87. Moreover, the film outperformed Kabir Singh (3.93), Badla (3.79), Article 15 (3.27), Luka Chuppi (2.95), Dream Girl (2.89), Super 30 (2.89) and De De Pyaar De (2.69). This proves that Khan’s theory held true for this hit movie!
