As expected, Chhapaak saw significant earnings on Saturday with Rs. 6.90 crores coming in- a jump of around 50%. First day earnings were predicted to be around Rs. 5 crores while second day earnings would need to hover at the Rs. 7 crores mark; which is what they’ve been doing so far. So far, the film has been projected correctly and it should stay that way until Wednesday when we can expect an earning of somewhere between Rs. 8-9 crores
The film has so far collected Rs. 11.67 crores, which means a weekend of around Rs. 20 crores is on the cards. With the kind of stardom Deepika Padukone enjoys – much more like that of Alia Bhatt or Kareena Kapoor than Priyanka Chopra – one would have expected more people to show up for her opening week, but they don’t because this is an issue-based movie with an unconventional narrative style that makes it seem less mainstream in comparison with other projects she’s worked on.
The Fox Star Studio film is doing about the same as Varun Dhawan’s October for the same target audiences – which had collected Rs. 5.04 crores on its first day and then had a weekend of Rs. 20.25 crores going by trends, Chhapaak should see a lifetime collection of Rs. 40-50 crore, which would be seen as a success in this industry.
