Many over-the-counter skin care treatments contain aloe vera gel. Because of the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities of this plant extract, it is used to treat acne.

It has been demonstrated that aloe vera complements conventional acne treatments. According to one study (Trusted Source), tretinoin cream—a common acne medication—and aloe vera cream together effectively decreased acne lesions in patients with mild to moderate acne.

Aloe vera can be applied to acne lesions on the face and other body regions. It works well when combined with other natural products or used alone. This post examines seven potential methods for minimizing the appearance of acne that include using aloe vera in addition to other natural remedies.

Seven Ways to Use Aloe Vera

Although not every technique will be effective for everyone, aloe vera is incredibly soft on the skin, so there isn’t much risk in giving it a shot.

Since aloe vera is an alternative therapy, there are no recognized standards for dosage or strength. The list that follows offers ideas for potential use of aloe vera for acne. Applying a novel substance to the face without first visiting a physician or dermatologist is not advised. They can also offer advice on any possible interactions between aloe vera and any drugs a person may be taking.

    1. Pure Aloe Vera

ResearchTrusted Source shows that aloe vera has certain characteristics that may make it effective in fighting acne. For instance, aloe vera gel is:

    an antibacterial

    an antioxidant

    an anti-inflammatory

To stop acne from breaking out, one can use pure aloe vera lotion rather than a conventional cleanser. This is effective because aloe vera’s antibacterial properties flush out microorganisms from the skin, lowering the chance of spots appearing.

Some people use aloe vera to cure acne by applying it to the afflicted region and leaving it on overnight. Washing it off in the morning is crucial.

    2. Aloe vera and lemon juice

Fruits like lemons contain citric acid, which may also help treat acne. Because pure lemon juice is acidic, combining it with aloe vera helps prevent skin irritation.

An eight to one ratio of aloe vera to lemon juice can be used to form a face mask. The mask is then applied evenly to the face and left on for approximately ten minutes. It’s crucial that they stay away from the delicate eye area and completely wipe the mask off afterwards.

    3. Cinnamon, Honey, and Aloe Vera

Another remedy for acne is to make a face mask out of honey, cinnamon, and aloe vera. Aloe vera shares antibacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities with cinnamon and honey (Trusted Source).

A person can combine around 2 teaspoons (tbsp) of honey, 1 tbsp of aloe vera, and ¼ teaspoon (tsp) of cinnamon in a small bowl to form a face mask. You can apply this to your face, let it sit for ten minutes, and then rinse it off with warm water.

    4. Aloe Vera and Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil gels and face washes may be useful for treating mild to moderate acne, according to research published in 2017.While tea tree oil shouldn’t be used to the skin for extended periods of time, it can work well as a cleansing solution when combined with aloe vera.

Combine water, aloe vera, and two to three drops of tea tree essential oil to create a cleansing solution. After a few minutes, it is crucial to rinse the solution with water because some people may be sensitive to tea tree oil.

    5. Aloe Vera Spray

Skin can be hydrated without producing excess oil or shine by misting it with a diluted aloe vera solution.

To create a spray, one should combine around two parts water to one part aloe vera. The affected region can be treated with the solution using a spray bottle, being careful not to go into the eyes.

    6. Coconut Oil, Sugar, and Aloe Vera Scrub

Chemicals are present in many over-the-counter exfoliants. If one wants to stay away from chemicals, they can make their own scrub by mixing sugar, aloe vera, and coconut oil.

The sugar granules exfoliate the dead skin cells. Research indicates that one of the main ingredients in coconut oil, lauric acid, may aid in the treatment of acne.

Equal parts sugar and coconut oil combined with half the amount of aloe vera can be used to form a scrub. The scrub can be blended, applied to the afflicted region, and then cleaned off with water.Because exfoliating too frequently might aggravate acne, avoid doing so and always get medical advice before using exfoliating creams on acne.

    7. Creams

A popular ingredient in a lot of over-the-counter acne creams is aloe vera. By examining the active components indicated on the label, consumers can determine whether products contain aloe vera.Because of its anti-inflammatory qualities, using lotions containing aloe vera as part of a daily regimen to prevent acne can be a smart option.
